Explaining 'no-mans land' in football/pressing
Pep Guardiola. If I asked you to describe his character in one word, what would your word-choices look like? Genius. Revolutionary. Perfectionist. Concentrated. Focused. Humble. Hard-working. This is not about the seven lost-traits that all football coaches or managers possess, although that could actually attract large variations of not only attention, though personalities. Now, if I ordered you to describe his footballing ideas or philosophy to me, how would you answer? Freedom within the system. Problem solving. Attention-to-detail. Dominance. Possession-orientated/plus. Collective intelligence, not just only a few smart plays. Duly winning, which is winning with your standers being met. You get the idea, I also hope varying words have crossed your mind which you can reply to this post with to ensure the FV-community sees you within a high role/status. Why? Information is a currency. Time is also THE currency in this world, who you choice to spend that currency with says a-lot about you as a person; Though, how do you understand who to be with? INTELLIGENCE is one of the largest hallmarks, for me, centred around experiences. Your grammar, value, how you connect sentences or words together—this stuff is all imperative towards actually growing online and attracting a high-value team. So, what is this piece going to be about? I will tell you now.
There is new information for pressing. New patterns to look-out-for. New triggers for exploitation—the 4-1-4-1 or 4-3-3 (standard) / 4-5-1 (horizontal second-stripe) is my least favourite pressing POR, settled or goal-kicks, I have a strong disliking for this reference of pressing. Do you know why? You’ve probably heard about the overloads or numerical disadvantages for the six, the large radius of space for certain players to cover. It is hard for me to list imperfections past the ‘conventional-points,’ because, in truth, this is all that I have been interested in or looked for upon first sight/discovery of this concept. The rest? It is all autonomous.
Autonomous essentially means to function without outside influence or the main ingredient(s). So, how has this actually looked in practise? You see, it all started for me on the thirteenth of January twenty-twenty-four. GW21 of the PL. Which is actually where the initial picture - which I used to introduce this - comes from; Newcastle played north or home against Manchester City while the latter resulted in a deserved three to two victory, with one thing in-particular standing out in my eyes during this game. Newcastle under Eddie Howe have consistently adhered to the pressing PORs or points-of-reference that I had mentioned above, regardless of how flexible the variations, you have always been told it is unsustainable or poor. However, you have never been given the reasonings into the ‘WHY,’ I am going to break it down for you in ways that no-one else ever has ( - just ask yourself this: what was the discussion or analysis like during the half-time break here? Did you learn anything? - ). I am not going to LIE to you nor do you need this investment, you can continue with the first forty-five before your inevitable frustration which results in a fatigued second-half where no progress is added to. Why does this happen? The next time you catch yourself scrolling for information at the breaks I want you to do one thing, which is to pay very close attention to each detail of the situation—Maybe, there is one specific piece of information which you are looking for? Confidence. Or, Alternativly, it is that you want to know what to look out for during the second forty-five. If it is the latter, you can go read my piece on the lessons to learn in the 2024 EFL Cup final and re-watch that, however, the former is most relevant to this piece, as I am going to give you that information in both the simplistic way and with the examples or the complete complex terms which you can use if you want.
This is the primary game I had used for learning about this concept, though, I had still used sub or secondary matches to further my understanding—Including more recent early kick-offs for MCI and certain AFCON games, to specify.
